Just today AC will not turn on, either in or outside, main breaker looks fine, not blown, switch is turned on in attic for furnace (attic light will not come on though, coincidence?) took off panel on furnace like others suggested to look for 3amp fuse, didn't see anything, too dam hot up there anyway. Looked at unit outside, nothing out of the ordinary. Wth. Tstat will not run with fan only either, put it on AC, snowflake blinks like normal then stays lit, nothing. Good times.

Change the light bulb in the attic and see if it works. If it doesn't, your light is probably on the same breaker as the furnace. You may have a bad breaker, or it may be tripped and not look tripped. Try shutting the furnace breaker of and flipping it back on. Lets start here, let us know what you find and we will go further if needed.

Thanks, I had done all that to no avail :(
Turns out the light switch in the attic had broken and the wire was frayed somehow... replaced the switch and all is well now!! Had the unit serviced this morning anyway since we've been here 7 yrs and never had anyone look at it... suggested we replace the 30 amp contactor... trying to find a good deal.
Thanks for your response!!

Why not have the tech that was there replace the contactor. Than you won't be paying someone else a service call and or a return trip fee to come do the work that could have already been done?

He quoted me 150, and I thought that was high... also the electrician friend has an uncle that is fair and won't hurt to get a few more quotes... :)

I don't know if your going to find it much cheaper unless you get one yourself and do it...

Thank you for responding to me, I hope I can get it replaced soon, turns out my electrician friend is going to get one and come out and see if it really is as bad as the service man said... we'll see!
