:confused:when ever I try to download a file to my PC I get the usual download window and click save. After the download is completed I search for the file on my computer and to where I downloaded it. The files never seem to show on my PC. I searched all over my computer for these files but found nothing. But oddly enough the space on my drive C is being taken up. I have tried downloading anything to my drive D, even to a USB memory stick and never seem to fid anything.

What do I do?

Have you used the search function to search for the exact name of file that you have tried to download.

Try this download, it is small and free

ccleaner (Freeware)
Download CCleaner 2.21.940 - FileHippo.com (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/)
On the right hand side, click download latest version

When your download box comes up, Click Save
-Now use dropdown box and choose to save to Desktop

When download is complete, minimize your browser and look on your desktop for the file

See if this works

I tried downloading this file and while it was downloading I was looking at my desktop. When the download completed the download box closed. And the file appeared on my desktop for about half a second and disappeared.:( again I searched my complete C and D drives for the file but its gone. I also did a disk cleanup for my C and D drives to see if that helped in any way.
HELP!:confused::confused::confused:

Were you able to download before without problem?

Any changes that either happened or that you perhaps made to your computer around the time that the problem started; particularly any Software or Hardware that you installed or setup.

Are you running any type of antivirus software?

Also check the Recycle Bin to see if the files are going there after downloading as you did mention space seems to be changing.

In windows explorer, go down to bottom in left column to reycle bin and see what files are listed in there.

Yes a while back, mabye a couple months ago I was able to download without any problem.
I am running AVG anti virus 8.5, but recently that has stopped working also. It sais that the licence # could not be verified and I have to reinstall it. But when I try an error pops up on my screen. So I guess I'm stuck with a broken avg.
I checked in my recycling bin and no files are being tranferred there

Read through all first

First thing I would do is to uninstall AVG through add/remove programs and then use AVG uninstaller:

Remover to completely uninstall AVG
AVG Antivirus and Security Software - Tools download (http://www.avg.com/download-tools)

Click the link on link above that says: AVG Remover(32bit)
Choose Run and not Save

Once that is fully uninstalled, do the same thing for CCleaner

ccleaner (Freeware)
Download CCleaner 2.21.940 - FileHippo.com (http://www.filehippo.com/download_ccleaner/)
On the right hand side, click download latest version

Choose download and the Run option, do not choose save
-Let this install to your computer

Once installed, run the program ccleaner and let it 'Fix' whatever it finds

Now that that is done, try to download something again and choose save to desktop like before and see if it that will work.

Do all that and post back, Hopefully that will address problem

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Now if this does work out, will address antivirus program after that

When I try to RUN the uninstaller it loads and the download window closes and nothing happens. Same with CCleaner. No idea what to do...:confused:

At this point, you would need to see if you can get access to another computer and then download the AVG uninstaller tool

Seems something there might be causing an issue.

See if you can use another computer, download the files and then put them on a usb drive or something and then copy them to your computer so that you can run them.

If using another computer is not an option, I would suggest a Repair installation: steps below

Repair Installation
A Repair Install will replace the system files with the files on the XP CD used for the Repair Install. It will leave your applications and settings intact, but Windows updates will need to be reapplied.

Perform a Repair Installation (http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx)
