Hello. 5 days ago I bought a 9 week old male Siberian Husky. I've been doing the following crate training process as I was told to do at the place I bought him.

-He is to be kept in the crate at all times, and taken to a spot with a pad for him to eliminate on every 2 hours. I put housebreaking aid on the pad.
-If he eliminates I can play with him for 25 minutes as a reward (has YET to happen).
-At night he stays in a pen with a bed on one side, some toys and a pad on the other side.
-They told me he is too young to be taken outside.

Now is this the correct way? Every 2 hours I take him to the pad, but he never does anything. He peed on it maybe twice out of the 5 days.. and 10 or more times he will eliminate IMMEDIATELY after I put him in the crate.. This really confuses me because they told me he will avoid eliminating in the crate.

Also today I fed him around 8:30 AM (his first meal) and he has not yet made stool.. and refused his other meals of the day.

He was given ample time to eliminate on the pad but 4 times today alone he urinated as soon as he was put back in the cage.

Also, do I leave him in the cage in his filth for the FULL 2 hour intervals I was told to do? Or do I clean it after only maybe half an hour?

I just want this process to go smoothly and I want what's best for him :\

Nope. You are doing it wrong in my opinion. THE CRATE SHOULD ONLY BE BIG ENOUGH for him to stand and turn around. No we we pads in crate. You are only teaching him to go in his crate. He should be out as much as you can keep an eye on him. He should be let out immediately after waking from sleep or nap. 10 minutes after feeding and every 20 minutes there after. No need for paper training. He will be trained in a little over a week. Just be awarre that he is still a baby and there still will be accidents

What am I doing wrong? I am only doing what I was told to, and also "t should only be big enough", right for him to be able to lay down, turn and stretch. He doesn't have room to eliminate and lay down else where.

He pisses and lays in it.

There is no pads in the crate, also I take the sarcasm back, your post ended at "the crate should only be big enough" and after I posted the rest showed up or you edited (because you may have posted too soon accidentally maybe?)

Sorry , my son hit the computer as I was typing. I think the breeders advice is wrong. This is what I have done with my labs for the past 20 years. Check with your local vet. Paper or pad training only teaches them too go on paper and pads. He is peeing in the crate because that is what you and the breeder have taught him. Having him sit in his own feces is cruel. This breeder sounds like a nut job to me. Anybody who would give you this info has no business dealing with dogs or anything else that is living. He is inhumane.

As I have already stated ask your vet... ask a different breeder... you don't have to follow my advice... do what you wish.

I don't crate train the same way you are so I will tell you how I do it...

I don't leave my dogs in the crate all the time for starters, this makes them think that being in there is a punishment.

I do my crate training similar to separation anxiety training.
I start with very small intervals of being in the crate, say 10 minutes and leave lots of toys in there. By leaving to toys or a few treats it will make them associate the crate with rewards!

For toilet training I put the pup on the training pad immediately after they have woken up or eaten, it takes time but eventually they learn where they are supposed to go. Alternatively you could put the puppy in a small room like a bathroom and put several pads in there.

As for him weeing immediately after he has been put in the crate, what sort of bedding are you using?
He has perhaps trained himself to urinate inside the crate instead of on the pads because he is in there for so long.

My siggestion would be to put him in the crate as little as possible for now until you have taught him to use the pads.
Once he has started using the pads more regularly then resume crate training.
