Since the pictures speak for themselves, I won't describe the bug in too much detail. I found the bug in my residence, and given it's odd look I decided to reach out to all you bug experts out there!

The bug was about a half inch long from tip to tip (not including the antennae). The first picture (filename ends in 2367) is a picture of the bug's bottom side. The last two pictures (filenames 2368 and 2369) are of the top of the bug. The photos were taken June 21. You can zoom in on the photos.

Anyone have any idea what kind of bug this is? If it helps, I live in Northern Virginia.

Thanks very much for your help!

My computer is taking forever to get the images but it sounds like earwigs to me.

Definitely an American Earwig. They love the mulch in flowerbeds, as decaying plant matter is their primary food source.

To be rid of them, take a rake or garden fork and turn the mulch or leaves around your foundation wall. A six inch border around the base of your house that is plant free will also help, and help with ants, spiders, and other invaders.

Thanks for all the great help everyone! Definitely ID'ed as an American Earwig.

Catsmine, thanks for the recommendations. I'll take to the yard early tomorrow.

Thanks again!
