My husband tried to turn down the heat on the hot water heater and now we have no hot water. I think he turned off the pilot. I tried to lite it today, but I can find where to do it. I know to turn it to pilot and hold the red button and lite. But I am not sure where the pilot is, I removed the panel and followed the instructions, it told me to follow the aluminum tube but I couldn't find it! It is located in my garage in a closet and turned a little so I don't have the best view. I am also using a long lighter. Should It light on its own if I just put the lighter near it? Please help! I had to take a cold shower today!

The tube to follow is a very small one... about 1/8" diameter. Typically you'll follow it from the valve that the Temp knob is on - and back into the tank, then it will turn upwards to it's outlet.

... and yes, if you've got the knob in the right position - and the button held down all the way, then the long lighter will probably light it... but you still should get down and low to confirm it's lit so that you can hold onto the button for a minute or so until the thermocouple heats up and let's that pilot stay lit.
