I have an older laptop computer Compaq Armada 1592DMT I was going to let my 7 year old play games on. I mistakenly tried to install a newer version of windows and boy that didn't work. It worked find before but when I tried to update it I messed it up. Now when I turn it on it indicates:

32768 Kb OK then I select a key and it shows:
" Non-system disk error replace and strike any key when ready"

I do this and the same message comes up. I know I screwed it up by using the wrong disk so how can I undo my mistake? I think it had Windows 95 and I stuck Windows 98 or 2000 in it.
Can anyone help me??

You need to locate the original setup/startup disk and the original distribution disk for Windows 95. The startup disk will be an MS-DOS disk that boots from the floppy drive. The distribution disk will be a CD. It's been long enough that I don't remember if it starts up automatically or whether you have to locate the SETUP.EXE program on the CD and run that. If you can't find a Windows 95 distribution disk, try E-Bay. I found one here for US$20

Before you run anything, but once you've booted to the floppy disk, I suggest that you delete the WINDOWS directory or directories (there may be more than one -- one might be WINNT) from the C: drive. You might consider reformatting the hard drive (use the FORMAT program on the hard disk) to clean the drive before reinstalling Windows 95.

What you apparently did is not load Windows properly. So the boot sector is now being marked as a non system disk.

You are going to have to boot using a Win 95 or Win 98 bootable floopy (you can find tools to make one on the WEB) and then try reinstalling Windows.

Here is link to a startup floppy, extract files to a floppy and you will have the bootable floppy

When you boot with the floppy in the drive - Choose, boot with
CD ROM Support

You will come to a DOS prompt
-Insert 95 or 98 setup disk
-Type d:
At command prompt - Hit enter

Now type setup.exe
Hit enter and setup will start installing OS

If you end having to format the drive before it will allow to install, post back with updated info
