how do you multiply scientific notation and regular numbers? Like
example:
7.213 x 10^23 times 14
how do you do that?

Start by multiplying the numbers (coefficients) 7.213 by 14, this equals 100.982. Then add the exponents, 23 and 0. Then reduce the product of multiplication to a number between 1 and 10 by dividing it by ten as many times as necessary, in this case twice to 1.00982. Add the number of times you divided to the exponent, 23 plus 2 equals 25. So the answer is 1.00982 x 10^25.
Once you do it a couple of times it becomes a great way to perform operations on large numbers.

The easiest way I know of is to just use a scientific calculator. You can get them at Wal-Mart for $10.
