If I accept a temporary job in a city too far to commute to, what expenses are deductible on my income taxes?

You can deduct travel expenses that include transportation, lodging and meals. Use Form 2106 or 2106-EZ to figure your allowable expenses that you claim on Schedule A (Form 1040).

Be sure you review what constitutes a "temporary" job. The IRS looks at these deductions very carefully, and will disallow deductions for a job where the father/mother, by personal choice, decides to work and live in another city for an extended (over one year) period.

Any job that exceeds one year in length is NO LONGER considered to be temporary in nature.
