So I dyed my hair black about a month ago because I couldn't decide on a color. But now I found the color that I want to be.. which it like a light brownish. But I've bought about three different products now and did the swatch test and nothing happens.. no color change. I'm starting to thik that this black will never go away! And it was only a semi perminant dye! How can I get the black out and be able to dye it lighter?!

If its perminant or even semi-perminant you need to let it grow out or bleach it (professionally) I dyed my hair black once (I'm a natural auburn) and it was horrendus (spelling?) I wanted to dye it to a red color instead and had ended up going to a hair salon to get it fixed then dyed.. though I could have dyed it after myself if I had wanted but I figured since I was there what's a little more money to get it done the way I wanted... Sadly black hair dye doesn't come out easy...

Michelle is right.

You should never dye your hair if your unsure of what color you want. Wait till you have the right color. Or you will have to go through this.

Color Removers are made to remove artificial hair dyes. Some color removers are bleach-based (Color Zap, Effasol). Others are reducing agents (ColorFix, Color Oops, Igora Phantom). Reducing agents are much more gentle on the hair than bleaches. Often, the bleaches will oxidize the artificial pigment to orange and it won't go any lighter than that. So, you're stuck dyeing it back to brown or black to give it some semblance of natural haircoloring. In addition, bleaches really damage the hair.

After using color remover, you have to re-dye the hair. Color remover will remove the artificial pigment and leave the hair an unpleasant orange or yellow color.
