Hello Reader,

My Husband just got custody of his 3 year old son and he is behind on a few things, one of them being verbal communication. He comprehends the questions we ask him by making head/body movements. However, the one and only word he does know is NO! This poor child has been bounced around between his mom and several different foster parents for 3years now. What should we do to help him get back on track with the rest of the 3 year olds?

With sincere gratitude,
SR

Regression is common in children going through what this poor baby is going through. Encourage his as much as possible, by insisting that when he wants something he must say 'please' and 'thank you' before he gets it.

Also speak to his doctor, its possible that setting the family issues aside, he could be PHYSICALLY having issues and not simply refusing to talk.

Good luck hon. :)

I would get him evaluated by your local school district. He would benefit from some speech therapy
