Just learned from my lawyer that estranged husband is missing and have a court date next week in which he hasn't been served yet... what can I do to help my lawyer? She has a P.I. working for her but Lord, I can't afford it. HELP! Done the searches on the web but don't know what else to do since the searches think he still lives at my home address. Thanks

Hon I'm sorry, I know its tough. But as far as I know, there isn't much you can do other than simply look for him. I'm in the same situation, and I haven't heard from my ex (daughters father as well) in 5 years.

Good luck. I hope someone has better advise and ideas for you.

Often when one party can not be located, you can win your case by default.

Your attorney will handle this appropriately with the judge at the court date.

What are you serving on your ex?

Depending on your State your Attorney can request that he be served by publication.

Thank you all for your answers... knowing something is better than dealing with the fear.

I'm serving him for contempt and motion to show cause for consenting to pay me support and then not.

I wish you luck, sometimes the registry of motor vehicles can be helpful, check with them. It would seem he is not paying support and doesn't intend to, and even if granted, getting the money from him is another story.
However, if a warrant is issued for non payment, if he gets stopped on a traffic violation and they run him through the system, the warrant will show and hopefully he will be arrested and not let out until he pays you what he was ordered to pay you. Good Luck

If you truly don't know of his whereabouts then there's probably not much you can do that your lawyer isn't already doing with the PI. You could try pumping some of his friends and relatives for information (or give their names to your lawyer and the PI, unless you already have.) Of course, if they know he's hiding out from you and your lawyer they probably aren't going to tell you much.

If the Attorney has a PI working on this I'm sure MV and all other sources have been checked. It's step #1.
