I have a split system which was put in in '91, I think it was purchased from RE Michel the condenser model # H3036SKB (REM stock # 0H492) the air handler is model # is L941624985

The compressor is starting to kick off after running 20 minutes or so comes back on starts humming louder, kicks out again, yada, yada, yada.

I figure I'd give it a send off, and replace the condenser.

My question is do I need to replace the AH? It's in the attic is a hell of a spot, the h coil looks good, the cabinet has no rust, blower works fine.

The reason I ask is that I'm selling in 4-5 years.

My plans were to clean the evap coil really good and replace the orfice assy with a txv, and do the condenser with a 13 seer (22r)

All thoughts welcome.

No,, you do not need to replace the airhandler if it is in good working condition

BUT the unit will not perform as a 13 SEER unit since the coil does not match the outside unit.

No argument there HVAC1000, you are correct

I just answered his question which was (do I have to replace the airhandler)
He can still keep hisairhandler ,but replace the H-coil with one to match the new 13 seer condenser,as long as he stays with the same tonage of a/c

I had no problem with your post but I wanted to make sure that the burkev8 understood about the mis-match and if and when he sells the home that the house inspector for the buyer will probably catch this problem and cause it to be corrected.
