A sump pump should have nothing to do with your toilet or basin plumbing. Do you mean a sewage ejection pump?

Hi John and Harold...

A sewage ejector should not cycle every time you use your toilet, but it should definitely cycle when the tank gets filled... ;)

Sounds to me like your pump is not working and that could be due to any of the following:

1) Check the electricity back at the breaker... or just plug an electrical tool or light into the electrical outlet powering the ejector. If no power is present at the outlet you need to check for power at the fuse/breaker panel and start to work your way out from there.

2) The pump is clogged... you will need to uncover the pump unit , disconnect it from the discharge pipe and pull the pump up and out of the tank to inspect impeller at the bottom of the pump. Remove the item clogging unit and reassemble the pump/pipes, etc.

3) The pump is shot... for whatever reason the pump is gone and will need to be replaced. I recommend the 2" ZOELLER SEWAGE EJECTOR for years and years of trouble free service.

It is unlikely that the discharge pipe itself is clogged as you would still hear the ejector cycling and trying to pump the waste/water out, so don't worry about that too much here.. O.K.

Check this stuff... pop back if you have questions.
