How do you get divorced by running the ad in a local newspaper.

In some states, running an ad can be used as a form of properly notifying the other party that you are suing them. Not so sure on family court matters.

Either way, you have to file with the courts. Just taking out an ad doesn't get you divorced.

This said it.

Filing for divorce is something that is done in court. You may be required to run an ad in a certain paper if your spouse cannot be served with a summons for the divorce by traditional manners.

This type of service is very expensive and must be approved by the court.

If you want to file for divorce, get a lawyer. Let him handle the details.

First, please pay more attention to posting instructions. There is a Read First sticky at the top of the Divorce forum that directs legal questions pertaining to divorce to the Family Law forum where I moved this.

Second, as noted, publishing an ad in the newspaper can be a part of the divorce process. But you still have to go to court.

Yes, you do not get a divorce by placing a ad in the newspaper. You merely use a ad as a form of legal service.
