I have an Alsons tub spout with diverter. It has 2 little holes at the bottom, one on each side.
Since it doesn't have just one hole and allen screw, I am assuming I can unscrew it. It will only move 1/4 turn! The diverter knob doesn't pull up at this point and won't move until I turn the spout back to the starting place. The diverter knob is on top near the wall end. I think this fitting is at least 20 years old and is solid chrome. Do I just need to use more elbow grease or am I missing something with the two holes?

You are correct. This is a slip on spout. But I haven't figured out what you want to do.
Do you want to take it apart and repair it ? Do you wish to replace it with the same type? Do you wish to replace with a regular slip on diverter spout. What's your pleasure! Cheers, Tom

I guess I'll replace it , But how do I get the old one off?

how do I get the old one off? The manufacture says your spout's a slip on. Double check to make sure it's not threaded. Put a wrench on it and try to turn it out counterclockwise. If it's a slip on you will see a set screw once you getv it turned upside down. What do you plan to replace it with? Good luck Tom

Whe I rotate it, it will only go 1/4 turn. There is not setscrew hole like I have seen on replacement spouts. There are two small holes underneathon either side of the spout. I want ot eplaceit with a spout that works . The diverter on this one is shot.

Why won't the spout turn more then 1/4 turn. Which way are you turning it? If it's a slip on you should be able to turn it all the way over and if it's threaded then turning it counter clockwise should unscrew it. Why is this so difficult? Are you afraid of damaging something if you put some muscle into it. What's going on? Let me know. Tom

Yes I'm afraid to damage something. What are the two holes for? If this is a slip on, how do I get it off to replace it ?

I can't get a cutaway on your spout. If this is a slip non spout the two holes should have a set screw up there. You have to get it turned so you can see what you're doing. No matter what the manufacture says aqfter all this time you can't tell me if this is really a slip on or a threaded spout. You're toss the old spout anyhow. Just put a wrench on iy and turn it so you can see up the holes. DO IT! Regards, Tom

I've already turned it to see hteholes but I can't tell what they do. Any idea what sisze allen wrench I'd use?

I finally got fed up and just kept turning. It is a threaded on spout ! I have no idea what the hole were about but it's off so I can replace it now . Thanks.
