I have a 12 year old Kohler single handle tub faucet I would like to replace but before I can take the face plate off I need to get the handle off. The handle has no set screw or hex screw on the bottom and no plate covering a screw so I am wondering if twisting it off is the right thing to do. If I go counter clockwise the water comes on. Thanks.

You are missing a screw somewhere, There has to be a cover cap that pops off to access screw. Can you post a pic of your fuacet and handle? If you can, we will make this quick and painless for you. Please do not just try to unscrew handle itself, as you will break handle or cartridge stem. A pic would really help here. Some fuacet handles are anchored by there escetuchion(usually jacuzzi fuacets). In this case, the escutchion will turn counter clockwise to remove handle(not the handle itself, but the trim piece behind it).

I checked again no set screw no place for an allen wrench. I can not get my photo to upload. It is an all chrome handle no piece to remove from it.

I am having a similar problem - please help! My handle does have an hole on the bottom but where I expected a screw there wasn't one and it does not fit hex or star - it looks completely round, possibly threaded but it's tough to tell as it's inside the handle. Any info helps at this point!

Does this look familiar?

Sort of, except the hole is on the underside of the handle, and there is no screw showing, just a hole to the inside.

Looks something like this:

Okay, I believe the handle itself will not come off separately. If this is like some of the other fuacets I've delt with, you have to grab the piece between the handle and the faceplate and unthread it counterclockwise. It may have some long threads, but it will come off. Once its unthreaded, just pull straight out on the handle and the whole works will come off, including the faceplate. Let us know if this works.

Sunnyflow, post a picture of your faucet, please...

Daniele, yes, there is a tiny set screw inside with hex configuration.
