I have a 95 civic that at first hesitated to start. Then I noticed that when I started to accelerate after shifting gears it would hesitate or jolt. It then started jolting and sometimes not accelerating while trying to accelerate and driving at a steady speed. I thought it might have to do with the fuel system so I replaced the fuel filter and put a fuel system treatment in the tank. I replaced the spark plug wires and the spark plugs. I just replaced the rotor and distributor cap. After that the car started a couple of times and on a test drive it continued to jolt and then it stopped accelerating and died and has not started since. The car smokes when I attempt to start it.

I suspect the ICM (igniter) and coil, but first:

When you turn the ignition to ON, does the Check Engine Light (CEL) come on and then go off after two seconds? Do you hear a relay click sound, when the CEL goes out?

Thanks you for the response. Yes, the light does come on and it does click when it goes off.

I would test/replace your ICM (igniter) and coil. Autozone and O'Reilly Auto will test them for free. Remove the coil first and reinstall it last. If your old igniter tests OK, be sure to coat the back of it with dielectric grease, before reattaching it to the heat sink.
