Hello
I'm having trouble with Vista Home Premium. I've just installed an upgrade from XP Home. And I have a few problems. The PC is a Gigabyte S Series with Intel dual core processor.
1 I have no audio
2 I often get a message saying that I'm not connected to the Internet when I'm online with a broadband connection
3 I keep getting a message urging me to install Network Control I've tried to install it from the installation CD many times and have searched the net with Drive Robot but I haven't been able to install it properly.
I still get this message when I examine Device Manager:
This device is not configured correctly. (Code 1)
There is no driver selected for the device information set or element.
Can anyone offer a solution to my problem

1 I have no audio...
Obtain the correct Vista audio driver for your hardware from the website of either Gigabyte if the audio is integrated on the motherboard, or the manufacturer of the audio card.
2 I often get a message saying that I'm not connected to the Internet when I'm online with a broadband connection
May be a network adapter driver issue like the audio problem. Obtain the correct Vista driver from the network adapter vendor.
Can anyone offer a solution to my problem
It is my opinion that an in-place upgrade is always a risky proposition. The result never seems to be as stable and proper as a clean install of the new operating system. My suggestion is to backup your data, locate Vista drivers for all your hardware devices, and install from scratch. You may also first want to confirm device compatibility with Vista. Without good driver support for all the devices, you'll have a half-baked mess of a computer.

Go to gigabyte motherboard website download for vista driver for your motherboard, have you put any pendrive in recent days
CTRL+ALT +Del press key simultaneously and check in process regsvr.exe running , if running particular file definetely it's a virus
Because of this file its slow down the process of computer and affect all exe files only solution format and reinstall vista again

I asked earlier today about a problem with Network Control drivers. I don't know how to add to that post but now I'm supplying additional information in response to the answers I received from Scleros and VPK2000.
The upgrade to Vista from XP home was a clean installation in that I formatted the drive, installed XP then Vista straight over the top before any applications were loaded. I tried to load Network Controller from the system Cd only after I had installed Vista and not at the time I had installed XP. I looked later for the network controller on the Gigabyte site. I'm not really conversant with drivers etc and so I downloaded "Driver Robot" which I thought would do a better job than I could do. Basically it scans the users PC then searches through the net to keep the drivers on the users PC up todate. I'm pretty certain I now have the right driver but some conflict or other thing is preventing it from being installed properly.
I've had PC Tools internet security working since I did the format and installation. This isn't the first time I've had Vista on the PC. It's been running for about 2 years with Vista installed and always worked after my initial audio problems which were resolved after the SP1 installation. That easy fix been the case with this installation though.
With the audio problem its strange in that when I play a Youtube video I see the wave signal showing on Realtek output but not Windows output parts off the volume mixer. Does that offer any clues?
I'd appreciate any additional suggestions both of you can provide in the light of this further info

The upgrade to Vista ... was a clean install ... I formatted the drive, installed XP then Vista
Ok, that's a semi clean install. Post your Gigabyte computer or motherboard model, and I'll attempt to point you to the correct drivers. If Vista does not include native drivers for all your components, some devices will be left inoperative after install or improperly enumerated. A typical driver update routine after a base install is chipset, storage, network, audio, and then any peripherals. Some devices may also not be properly supported by Windows until a certain Service Pack level is installed.

I still suspect driver issues. Doing a fresh install and having everything just work is, well, rare. Until all devices are happy with no problems reported in the device manager, pursuing other troubleshooting avenues will probably be a waste of time. However, check that it isn't something simple like having the output muted or a cable plugged wrong.

See 32 bit Vista Drivers (http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2689&ost=windows+vista+x86+(32-bit)#anchor_os) or 64 bit Vista drivers (http://www.giga-byte.com/Support/Motherboard/Driver_Model.aspx?ProductID=2689&ost=windows+vista+x64+(64-bit)#anchor_os) depending on your Vista version. Suggest you format again and reinstall everything from the beginning. Once Windows setup completes, the chipset driver needs installation first, followed by the other drivers, followed by Vista Service Pack 2, then Windows Update, and then any application software.
It appears the chipset driver includes the network (LAN) driver. You'll need to explain what you meant by network control(ler) if you meant some sort of software other than the driver, such as utility software for the network adapter as I don't see any other software available. There could have been something shipped with the board on a CD that isn't on the website.
You probably do not need the individual SATA RAID driver if only using a single hard disk. This driver is used if the board's storage controller is configured for multiple drive RAID (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAID) in the BIOS or for AHCI controller mode. Yours likely is not configured in this manner if the first Windows install succeeded without having to add the driver during setup for the controller and disk to be recognized. More information about these features is available in the board's manual available from the right-hand sidebar of the above driver links.

Scleros you gave me the following advice
"Suggest you format again and reinstall everything from the beginning. Once Windows setup completes, the chipset driver needs installation first, followed by the other drivers, followed by Vista Service Pack 2, then Windows Update, and then any application software"
I did everything as you suggested and now everything is running well and I learned a lot from the exercise. Thank you for solving my problem and helping me to learn more about looking after my PC

You're welcome. Glad it's working. You mentioned you had run Vista before. If you think you might be going through this again, investing in drive imaging software and taking a snapshot of the drive once everything is as you want it could save significant time doing the next wipe and rebuild.
