We have a Goodman split AC unit that is just a few years old. Yesterday the temp in the house started creeping up and there was a faint buzzing noise coming from the air handler in the basement. The refrigerant line was wet and slightly icy. We shut off the AC and fan off hoping it would defrost and be fine, that we'd been running it too cold. We also changed the air filter and checked for any obstructions in the intake. About 8 hours later, after defrosting, we tried the fan again - still just a buzzing noise with no airflow. The unit outside is functioning. We've checked the 3V fuse, it's fine. The capacitor is fine. My husband pulled out the fan and motor. The motor is what's making the buzzing sound. It seems to be functioning but the spindle that is supposed to turn the fan moves so slowly you can barely tell it's moving, even when it is detached from the fan. Is the fan motor just shot? We don't want to spend the money on a fan motor if it could be something much more simple that we're just missing. Lubrication? Something needs to be cleaned? Thanks for any ideas!
