We just had a complete setpic system placed at our home and retrofitted into the existing house. Since the septic system has filled with water, the sewer gas is coming into the downstairs bathroom and running us out of here. I'm not an alarmist, but I can't open the bathroom door and CANNOT use that room... it's bad!

I found out yesterday that I am pregnant for my first time and am worried that this gas is harmful; I am already a high-risk pregnant due to age.

What the heck could be going wrong with this system?!

Congratulations on wonderful news... :)

Look under the bathroom sink and see if you can find a MECHANICAL VENT (called an AAV or air admittance valve)... see image. If you have one of these in the bathroom then it may have failed and need to be replaced.

Otherwise, check that the tub and sink have been used recently. If not then the PTRAP to the fixtures may have dried out due to misuse and you need to run water in the fixtures to fill the traps and stop the sewer gasses from coming into the home.

Finally, if there is a floor drain in the basement or in the bathroom the PTRAP could also have dried out... same as above, fill with water on regular basis to prevent this from re-occurring.

Check these things and let us know what you discover...
