I have a question on payee for s.s.I.

I am finally getting my s.s.I and my husband is going to be my payee and also my daughter's payee.

My question is why can't me and my husband just use our checking account that we have together? Cause My case worker said that we have open a sperate bank accounts for my s.s.I well it is s.s.d. My money is going to our bills like rent and power. I am just confused about why we can not use our checking account that we have now.
Thanks. :)

Hello p:

Me too. But, I wouldn't look a gift horse in the mouth. It doesn't cost anything to open a new account.

That really did not help my answer. Thank you anyway.

This might be a new rule with the disability office to make this mandatory. There is a lot of fraud in disability and to ensure that the money is properly spent for living expenses the SSD may have made the determination that it is easier to track the money in a totally separate account.

No, it didn't help, if you want to look into the mind of a bureaucrat. I sure don't know WHY they do what they do. All I know is what YOU can do about it, and I made that suggestion.

Course, if you find out your that your case worker is full of crap, then what? You going to confront her and tell her she's wrong? I don't think you are. And, who cares WHY they won't let you do it the way you want to do it? It costs NOTHING to open an account to get your money. Seems to me THAT'S the important stuff. But, what do I know?
