Hey everyone,

I was wondering if anyone had experienced problems with Yaz birth control after being on it for a while, and if they switched, what worked best.

I am 22 and have been on Yaz for more than 2 years now, and until recently, the only problem I had with it was during the 4th month when I missed a period and felt nauseous due to normal side effects. My doctor kept me on it and everything's been fine ever since.

Yesterday (Wednesday) I felt fine all day and when using the restroom I noticed light brown spotting in my underwear. At this time, I had 2 active pills left before my 4 inactive, and my period normally begins on the last day of my inactive pills, or last pill of the pack. After noticing this spotting, I put a liner in assuming I was getting my period early (I've been stressed and have taken my pill an hour late the past week or two). However, after using the restroom there has been no more spotting since then.

As the night went on, I began feeling nauseous (never vomiting), very similar to during the 4th month when I was seeing side effects. I am sexually active (once a week maybe), but in addition to being on the pill, we use condoms and he pulls out, so I'm not concerned about pregnancy.

Is this just a sign that maybe it's time to switch from Yaz? It's the only BC pill I've been on so I also don't know what else I would switch to. I've also been consistent about taking a multivitamin, so maybe this has just caused imbalance in my hormones?

The multivitamin shouldn't be causing an imbalance in your hormones, as it contains vitamins and minerals, not additional hormones. Since this is the first time other than when you missed a pill that you've experienced problems with it I don't think you need to worry about switching pills at this point. If the problems persist then I would talk to your dr about switching pills. Correct me if I'm wrong, but yaz is a low does because. Occasional spotting is not uncommon with low does because. Even though you've been on it for some time now you mentioned you were stressed. That could explain the spotting and nausea (I get migraines when I stress, my brother gets nausea and vomiting when he stresses, stress effects everyone differently). If the problems continue or worsen don't hesitate to call your dr but I don't think you need to worry too much for now.
