I am a 24 year old female. I have been on birth control pills for years, however I am about 3 days late for my period. I have not always taken my pill 100% religiously, so I thought there might be a slim chance I was pregnant, since I am sexually active with my boyfriend of several years. Oddly enough, I have been having these horrendous hot flashes for the last 2 weeks. They have been pretty consistent and today is the first day I have had any relief I have taken 3 pregnancy tests that have all been negative. Today I had a blood test done and I will receive the results tomorrow. If I am not pregnant, I do no know what could be going on. I am very regular with my cycles and know something is not right with my body. If anyone can relate or has any idea what is going on please let more know. Thanks in advance.

It could be a number of things; pregnancy, stress, diet, medications, hormonal changes, alcohol intake, etc. It could also be the result of a thyroid issue. If you cannot pinpoint a lifestyle cause, then perhaps you should have the thyroid checked. It could be a number of health related issues, any other symptoms you could share?

Thank you for the response. There are really no other symptoms that I can pinpoint. The hot flashes are the most prominent, lasting for hours, with little relief. I even notice myself waking at night soaking wet. A thyroid issue is something I should look in to, because I haven't had any lifestyle changes that stick out in my mind.

Ladyviper has some good ideas. If the blood test comes back negative, call your Family Physician and make an appointment to discuss your symptoms.

Good luck!
