I have a Chinese made Blue Max generator that is rated for 4000W startup and 2600W continuous output. I have put 50-70 hours on over the last 2 summers with no problems running up to five 500W halogen lights. Recently the circuit breaker trips with any more than 3 lights turned on. I can turn all 5 on and it will power for up to 15 min and then trip the breaker. Last summer the engine ran well unchoked independently of the generator load. On initial startup this year I noticed the engine is picky about the choke position and requires some choking when unloaded and no choke when there is a heavy load. Are the two problems related? Is the circuit breaker bad? Is the generator part of the machine bad? Any help is appreciated. Thanks

Probably the gas was starting to turn. I would run with a premium gas and see if it clears up.
Also check air filter.

Thanks for the response. I have run 5 tanks of gas through it this year with no trouble and when I adjust the choke it seems to run normally. And it doesn't sound like it's bogging down right before the breaker opens. It works normally right up to the point where the breaker opens. I will check the air filter and try a tank of premium though. It's not an expensive genny but I would expect it to work for many more hours. Reviews from other owners are overwhelmingly positive.

If its not a weak breaker, it may have a bad connection on breaker, bad connections generate heat.
