I recd a garnishment summons from my employer the other day the problem I have is this.. I live in Oklahoma the company doing this claims to be a law firm when in reality they are a debt collection agency. I have had trouble with them for several years and I called them once I received this also sent a fax and certified letter to them to get a release of garnishment from them because for one can they LEAGALLY garnish my wages if I have been making monthly payment to them, the court papers they sent doesn't even have my employers name on any of the eight pages that was sent it has another company that I have never worked for and the paperwork is dated March 14 ,2007. The woman I spoke with was very rude and kept talking over me and saying things like maam stop yelling at me when in fact I was not. They have request 25% of my wages and if this happens I will not be able to survive at all I am a single mother and live paycheck to paycheck. I jut don't see how this would be legal. Can anyone help?

Hello fed:

Once a judgment has been rendered, and in your case it has, they can garnish your wages without your permission. The only way you're going to get out from under is to BORROW some cash and settle with the collector. With CASH in your hand, you can probably settle for $.25 on the dollar.

I know, that might not be possible... Ok.
