Hi
I am moving in an apartment where there is lead paint. In the apartment upstairs they will do
Some renovations, including removing the wall papers, sand the walls and paint the walls. I am asking if it will be a problem for my health if the dust containing lead from upstairs will spread around. Thanks

They haven't made lead paint for many years now, so the apt. must be pretty old. Yes, I would be concerned about the sanding residue.

I live in Cambridge, ma and all the houses are very old here around. The place I think is old and the owner doesn't know if there is lead paint there.

If the house was built before 1972, the paint on the walls and trim contains lead. It was used as a smoothing agent.
If the paint is flaking, it can be very dangerous to a child. Not as much to an adult, but still not safe.
Walls should not be sanded. This will air borne the lead. All work in area must be done with negative air.
The work should be done by a lead abatement company that is certified by the state. It is not an inexpensive operation.
If they allow containment, can cover walls and ceiling with sheetrock.

You or the LL can buy a lead paint test kit at any hardware store. The danger from lead is if you eat it or breath the dust from sanding so do not sand. The way the lead story goes old lead paint peals and can look like an edible chip or potato chip so kids could eat it. That mean we must have some pretty unusual parent somewhere.

Hi
The owner of the apartment told me that he does not want to do the test, so for sure we are not going to rent the apartment. I don't want to risk to breath the laed dust while the are doing some construction works. Even if the do the works in the apartment above, I think the dust will be all around.
Thanks for you help

So he is willing to sand but does not want to know if there is lead. You made a good chice and he's a fool.

If he rents and kid gets lead poison, he is libel. Can be sued.
U made a smart choice by not renting there.
