I have a two (2) Hampton Bay Carousel II ceiling fans with remote. The fan on one of them stopped working and I noticed that the chain pull that controls fan speed wouldn't work. After opening the fan I noticed that the plastic switch was cracked and some of the wires were no longer connected. The fan control switch has 4 wires (for three speeds) -- White, Black, Yellow and Blue. Because I did not know the wiring scheme (what wire attaches to L, 1, 2, 3 positions on the fan) I opened the other identical fan to look at how that switch was wired and discovered that this switch was also cracked, but I believe I was able to determine what wires went where (although a few wires had fallen out when moving the unit, but I think I remember the orientation), which was as follows:

L - White
1 - Yellow
2 - Blue
3 - Black

In this configuration, the fan motor "hums" but the fan does not turn. I now have 2 fans that don't work. Since Hampton Bay is made by Home Depot, I went and puchased another switch (Westinghouse) which is th eonly 4 wire, 3 speed switch they carry, and I'm thinking it should work since it's their fan.

I'm now thinking that I have the wrong wire configuration as the second fan was working just fine until the switch broke and now it won't work with the replacement switch.

PLEASE HELP!

First of all, you may not have the correct switch. Order the correct one from Hampton Bay, their contact info is in our sticky. Secondly, here are replacement instructions:

Ceiling fan pull chain replacement and repair - Ceiling Fans N More (http://www.ceiling-fans-n-more.com/ceiling-fan-pullchain-replacement-and-repair.php)

And if that color combo doesn't work, try

L - White, 1- Black, 2 - Blue, 3 - Yellow
