I'm not an electrician, but have successfully installed and run wiring for non-complex ceiling fans, so I have some skills. Forgive me if I don't use some of the terms correctly.
The current issue I have is related to a three way switch. That three way switch is part of an upstairs/downstairs three way situation. The three way switch is an "end of the run" switch with 14/3 cable. Due to the structue of the walls and existing wiring, it is the only place I can "pull power" for a new, unrelated switch and light. I don't want the new switch/light to be "affected" by the three way switches.
My first attempts to wire this new switch/receptacle resulted in both lights being affected by any of the three switches (the two existing three way ones and the one new single pole one). It is weird. Depending on the toggling, the switches sometimes do not affect any of the lights, the lights are sometimes dim, or one switch turns off both lights.
Is there a way to pull power from a three way switch to a new switch/light? Thanks in advance for suggestions.
