View Full Version : Freon lines between floor and ceiling?

I have about eight feet of lines to run between floor and ceiling. I wanted to pull these lines through 3" pvc to avoid possible future damage to the ceiling. There are two 90 degree turns for which I am using two 45's to make it easier. Is it necessary to contain these in pvc (even though I have lubricant it seems that it might be very difficult to accomplish). Should I give up on the idea and just run the though the space making sure they're wrapped well with insulation? Also does a professional have "fittings" to make the turns with out difficulty?

This is your best idea. As long as the larger line (suction line) is insulated well it will not have the opportunity to cause a condensation problem. The smaller line (liquid line) does not cause condensation problems so there is no need to insulate that line.

Keep the lines sealed during all construction and only allow them to be open to the atmosphere right before brazing them onto the equipment.

One other fact to remember is that refrigerant flowing through the lines can create noise depending upon the system. Usually this noise is not that loud but I thought I would mention that fact so you are not alarmed by the noise if it happens.
