View Full Version : Quote me on this poem!

Its called THE FACE

This is the face that bares my name.
Plain, ordinary, all the same.
Look harder and you might see,
This face tells you no part of me.
It doesn't say how I feel inside.
It doesn't tell you the things I hide.
My face doesn't reveal what I think
Of life, love, or politics.
But you judge this face and you judge me,
By what you look at, and how you see.
But that's not where the truth lies.
The truth is hidden behind my eyes.
This is the face that bares my name.
But it will never tell you how I feel,
Or who I am!

Hi, ironclad04!

That's quite nice! It seems to describe a type of stoicism.

Thanks!

Actually I was writing it at the time of a rasicm controversy we had in my school about blacks, and vietminese, and jewish people! I took great pride in presenting this poem to them in front of the whole school, thought they could use a little pride! Thanks for the input!

Very, very nice! It rhymes without sounding rhyme-y (like so many do).

Now, since I'm the AMHD queen of spelling and grammar (and punctuation), "bares" should be "bears."

I too, play a bit of accordion myself! :D

Really? I thought I was the last accordion player on earth!

I was forced to take lessons as a young teen, took them for 2 years, then I outgrew the accordion and decided not to continue.

I'm not bad though, can still play a good Umpa Umpa song. ;)

We could start a band!

Sorry, but I did need to edit your post, ironclad04! Got to be careful about the language that's used here. What's posted can influence children into thinking that anything is okay.

Thanks!

Have you ever written the lyrics to a song, ironclad04? It would probably be a wise thing to get back on track here as far as your poem is concerned. If not, then we risk this thread being turned into some kind of discussion.

I just wanted to give you a "heads up" on that.

Thanks!

It isn't all that hard to write lyrics, although it does take some practice (a lot!). I'd be glad to work on that sort of thing with you though, if you would like to.

Thanks!

By the way, your original poem on this thread could be turned into the lyrics for a song quite easily.

I've already got a melody going for it in my head.

Thanks!

Great poem Iron... I loved it, and isn't that the truth? As Wondergirl said, some poems sound too hokey with all the rhymes, but yours was really smooth and good. Loved it, thank you for sharing it with all of us!
