I am in sort of a fix.
I got married last February in a court house, the guy that I married had a lot of secrets which only came out once we were married. He was someone totally different after the marriage.

I did marry for love, I still do love him but I feel so betrayed. He promised that we would have this huge church wedding which he lied about, he didn't even tell his family we were married until maybe 8 months later.

I am South African who married a American Spanish man.
I do not want to be in this marriage and want to move back to South Africa but I feel trapped and do not want to be a divorce as I am only 25. PLease can someone let me know if I can anul this marriage and how. I have also been emotionally and physically abused in this relatuonship.

It is very possible you may have to divorce, ( why the issue)

But you should contact a divorce attorney

From what I understand annulling a marriage could be possible if you felt threatened or for "fraud". He married you under false pretenses and that could get you an annulment but I would see a lawyer.

You've said nothing that would be grounds for an annulment. So no. You have to proceed with a divorce.

I am with Cadillac here... it doesn't sound like there are any grounds for anullment. You are going to need to file for divorce instead.

I am terribly sorry for your current situation... Although every state has different "rules" for filing an annulment, the most common reasons are fraud, duress, mental illness, lack of consummation, and polygamy.
That means if your marriage does not fall under one of those reasons, the annulment will not be granted and you'll have to get a divorce.
You may be able to use fraud, but it depends on the specifics and what, if any, proof you have to submit to the court.
