I am remodeling my basement and would like to put in a bathtub in place of an existing shower. The existing shower is built into the foundation of the house. From what I have read I would need to jackhammer out the concrete to move the drain over to connect to a bathtub. I also read about a dap out. Is this required? If so why is there not one to access the p-trap of the shower?
Is this crazy to attempt or is it do-able? I really don't like the built in shower as it is very cold to stand on and not very big.

Anything's possible in plumbing.! It all depends on the cost and difficulty in installation.

Yes, the floor will have to come up, the trap and raiser moved and a 12 X12" dap- out installed
The reason we install a tub dap-out is that the tub waste connects to the trap raiser under the floor level. A shower connects above the floor level. The rough in measures for a typical 60" tub are 1 1/2" off the front plate to the center of the trap raiser and 15 1/2 off the side wall. Good luck, Tom
