I live in Texas and see the need to file for bankruptcy. Is it possible to do this without going through an attorney?

You can go it alone but Personally I think it would be better to get an attorney that specializes in bankruptcy, Since the laws have changed you will have to take a means test to see if you qualify for chapter 7 or 13 and from what I understand the laws are so complicated now that even the attorneys aren't always sure

Yes you may, the last time I sat though a first appearance of creditors this year, it was obvious that many people who had filed their own had no idea what they were doing, most did not file things correcty or the creditors knew they had filed their own and they filed objections that the person had no idea how to resond to.
I would advice using an attorney
