OK this is going to be a pretty long thread... but here goes.
I was born in nyc in 1976 isn't leave ny until 2001 after the trade centers fell.
I moved to Washington state where I started getting reports from my sisters that I had
Child support papers I didn't act on them immeditely but when I moved to Missouri I started thinking about it... so I left Missouri mived to wv and then I called them up and talk to them about ti they asked for my info(and like a dumb I gave it to them needless to say they instantly charged me with cs in the amount of $5000 I wasn't working at the time and the arrearaged increased and when I finally found a job I was bring home $8 paychecks yes $8. it started taking a toll on my life and my household. I have been incarcerated twice for none payment
The first time I was 1day from getting paid and I was told I had to give the courts $400 and I told them I can have it to them the next day and they locked me up anyway. I lost that job.
I was arrested again because I lost another job due to finances which got me incarcerated.
I was told that the dna test I been requesting for the past 6 yrs will not be granted because the courts defaulted me the father and the only way I can get one is if a lawyer request it for me... I can't afford a lawyer because its $3000 for the retainer.so now I'm working for a fast food restaurant and I am not bring home any kind of money .I have a 5 yr old and an 11 yr old that need things and I can't support them because all my money is going to this one child that I have never seen...
I was told that if I gave up my rights as a father that the child support would go away and I an move on with my life. I'm not trying to get out of paying child support but I'm trying to get my life back in order for my biological kids that I KNOW are mine. The courts claim they don't know where the mother is residing I spoke to her once and she told me never to call again and she changed her number and she moved. Now the courts claim they don't know where she is... well they need to find out because I want to know where the heck my money is going. So please give me some kind of information .

Some kind of information:

They DO know where she is an its none of your business unless you file for visitation, and even then it might not be your business.

You cannot give up your rights and even if you could, it wouldn't change your child support. Whomever told you otherwise is wrong.

You were summoned to appear in court and didn't bother to go... so really... you made your bed.

What information do you really want?

So you don't need an attorney to petition the courts for a paternity test. There was no perfected process of service on you, however when you called and asked about the case you gave up your rights to the issue. Now each year every lawyer has to turn in "free time" in order to stay in good standing with the bar. You can call your local human services office and get help with the petition.

First, your age and when you left NY are immaterial. The only thing that is material here is that you were told that someone was claiming you are the parent of their child and you did NOTHING about it. That's the dumb thing you did, not providing them with info.

You should have found out what the story was when you first found out about it. You could then have had a paternity test done and dealt with this properly.

Now you may be stuck. It may be too late to protest paternity. But you are going to need an attorney to help you deal with the courts.
