Does a man have to pay child support for a child that he had with a lady that he met at her workplace, (which was a Brothel, mind you). Now she is trying to make him pay child support for the mext 18 years.

If she can prove the child is his, he's liable. It doesn't matter how he met her.

If the child is his, he is responsible, like Ren6 said. Nothing else matters.

Get a DNA test though... because seriously... if she was a pro, there is very little chance of nailing down (pun intended) the father by math and guessing.

Also consider that this is possibly a way to try to scam money from him for support while pregnant.

This is actually an interesting question. While my first inclination is to agree with the others, if you are the father then you are responsible for support.

But there is an aspect of this that might make for an interesting court case. If one looks at this from the angle that the person purchased a service. In doing so there may be an implied contract that purchasing the service does not adversely affect the purchaser. The supplier of this particular service may be held negligent for not providing sufficient protection for those partaking of the service.

I can see where an up and coming attorney might want to take this on for the publicity value and for setting case law.

I'm not saying the possible father would win, but I can see the argument being made. If a woman can win an award from McDonald's for scalding herself on coffee served too hot, then why not a man for being held responsible for a child that he had a reasonable expectation would not result from the transaction?

P.S. I moved this here since it's a question of Family Law, not rasing children.

Ouch, sticky legal situation here but I have some experience being on the receiving end of such legal attention. I was once charged in a paternity suit and told to pay child support and I only found out about it when my bank called me as they were served with papers instructing them to start taking my money (they said they could not find me to inform me that I had fathered a child or to appear in court but they did find me to make me pay). I contacted the court to see what could be done as I was confident that I was not the father and was told in no uncertain terms that the welfare of the child was paramount and I never challenged it and I had ample time to do so. I was named as the father so I would have to pay. Needless to say I hired an attorney as I was still a virgin and wasn't even in the country at the time of the conception. She got the decision overturned and even got all my expenses in challenging the decision paid for. She also gave me one very crucial bit of enlightenment that made me understand why it was done; I had a job and an ability to pay, it didn't matter if I was "guilty" or not. He should certainly get a lawyer!

Well the OP has a different situation. In your case you were being falsely accused. From the OP's question he did do business with the mother so his paternity might be established.

But yes, he needs to contact an attorney, no way he can handle this himself. I would suggest mentioning the tactic I proposed to prospective attorneys to see their reaction.

Where is this located at? Because that will make a huge difference especially with the whole "pay for a service" angle. Because not all states allow prostitution. Now if it was in an area that did allow that it's one thing to say he paid for a service and what not but if it was an illegal transaction to begin with it would be like a drugie filling suit against his dealer for the crack making him sick.

Ah, yes. Of course, if you are adjudged the legal father. Brothel or no brothel, what difference does that make? The child's no less a child.
