Please explain your problem in detail. Are we talking about a lead closet bend? Where the "lead pipe" connects to the cast iron is there a brass ring on the end? Does the cast iron have a hub or is it bald? Let's have more details. Back to you. Tom

Thanks
OK when I took off toilet then took off flang in floor there was a led pipe that is about a foot long that is straight it has no threding on eather end and it goes into my black pipe that is an elbow . Looks like it might be soldered in. we have gas pipes near by also we do not know how to keep the solder from going dawn the drain.

Your solder gun is not going to be a match for that lead and oakum seal. Why are you trying to remove this pipe? Its part of your toilet drain and can stay, unless you are also moving the toilet to a new location.

OK! So if you got the lead pipe out , what then? Is there a brass ferule and the joint is wiped or is it a poured lead and oakum joint? Can you take a picture of the joint? If the lead pipe isn't leaking why replace it? To do so you would have to replace with PVC or cast iron. Neither one will be easy to transition to. Let me know, tom
