If you have a Google toolbar try deleting that. If that doesn't work you may want try reinstalling your OS.
A 3rd option is downloading Firefox. Less problems in my opinion.
[This is my opinion - NOT fact.]

Can you right-click on the Internet Explorer icon and select "Properties". This icon is not a standard shortcut. It might be on the desktop. It might be under <START>. If you can, select "Properties" and go to the Advanced tab and click the button that says "Reset" or "Reset All"
I like the joker party's suggestion. If you have any toolbars, Yahoo Toolbar, Google Toolbar, someoneElse's toolbar, go to Add/Remove programs in Control panel and uninstall them. You don't need them in any case. Also, download a copy of MalwareBytes:
MalwareBytes.org (http://malwarebytes.org/)
And scan with that to make sure you don't have any malware fouling up IE (it's common).
