I bought a house and the previous owner had cats, before we move in we have a company put in new carpet and also painted the house, but the cat smell continues. We found cat feces in the crawl space and we picked it up and sprayed with pet odor remover, but the smell continues, what else can we do to get rid of the smell? We think that the carpet company didn't clean the floors and walls before they put the carpet and painted.

Smell from "cat stuff" does tend to permeate, it may smell far from the actual source. Check the crawlspace again and make sure that the odor is completely neutralized. There are several good products available to get rid of pet odors.

I just use vinegar, it's cheap, but it doesn't work on dog odors. You will drive yourself crazy attempting to clear the air, but until you find the source, it may smell for years. There is a chance that the people who painted and put down the new carpet did not clean thoroghly first. A good chance, in my experience.

Can you have them visit the house and help you locate the problem areas? Is there anything in the contract that may allow re-doing of the work for little cost to you? Pulling up the carpeting and deodorizing the floor beneath it might take care of the problem.
