My dog was diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. She has not eaten in two days and has been to the vet twice already. She refuses to eat and just lays around. After drinking water she immediately goes to the restroom. I am scared she will not make it through the weekend, or night. How can I get her to eat something? PLEASE any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What medication is she on? I had a diabetic dog some years ago and it took some time for her to get used to the medication.
What does the Vet say?
If she isn't hungry, don't force her to eat or persuade her to eat. She'll eat when she feels better.
As far as frequent urination - that comes with Diabetes.

She was just diagnosed with diabetes yesterday. She isn't on any medicine, they just gave us some insulin In case she eats... She was at the vet ALL day and she wouldn't eat so they couldn't give her the exact amount of insulin she needs. She is drinking a LOT of water and eating Ice. I just fed her a few tiny pieces of bread and she actually ate it. Im really worried because she hasn't eaten in so long and she can barely stand.

I personally have not owned a diabetic dog but I found this site that may help to understand what is good and bad to feed a diabetic dog, on this site there is also a link for home-made diabetic dog food.

Carbohydrates (bread) are among the WORST things you can feed her. Didn't your Vet explain what her diet should be?
If she isn't eating, then that's the guideline the Vet should use for the insulin. No Vet I know would simply send a diabetic dog home.
I am VERY familiar with Diabetes and something most definitely is not right here.
Are you positive you understood what the Vet told you?

That's the thing. The only thing he told us to feed her was the diet dog food he sent home. She didn't eat when she was at the vet so he was unable to figure out the exact amount of insulin, but he did send some home. We are suppose to bring her back Monday. Since I am new to the diabetic situation I have no idea what to feed her. She refuses to eat the food he sent home and her regular dog food. I don't want her to starve so I have to feed her something. Any ideas of safe food for her?
