I have natural curly hair, and hate it 90percent of the time.does anyone know how good the 'instyler' hair straightner works?its suppost to leave your hair with a shine polished look (so it says).all of the other straightners in the past that I have used has left my hair looking awful, and badly damaged

I haven't heard of an 'instyler' but it could be because I am from another country. (I'm in Australia)

The best straighteners on the market are GHD's but they are expensive.

I wouldn't touch anything that has metal plates...
Ceramic is a lot less damaging and works better.

Sarah I wish I could change your mind about hating your hair. I too have naturally curly hair and for the longest time I hated it. Now, I love it only because there are SO many ways to style curly hair and no matter what, it ALWAYS looks good, even though you may not think so. Just think of how many women want curly hair and pay big money for it and you have it. Curly hair is truly a God given gift.

Probably twice a month I straighten my hair and I use the best straightener there is for curly hair: the CHI. It's a bit on the expensive side but it works miracles!

I haven't heard of an 'instyler' either and I live in the US.

My mom's friend is a cosmetologist and I was asking her about hair straighteners one day and which ones she used at work. She told me that she uses the 'Chi'. It is about $100 and she said it works great. It is also ceramic. Her daughter has really curly hair and she uses it and it doesn't look like it damages her hair. But, that is just my opinion. You may want to look into that.

I use a hair product in my hair before I straighten it that prevets it from getting damaged from my straightener. If you want I can get the name of it tonight and post it for you. It works great and my hair is healthy. Good luck!

BB may have some better suggestions but I will give you mine.

Buy a top of the line conditioner.
They are expensive but well worth the money.

It doesn't have to be one specifically for curly hair, one that reduces "Frizz" would be good to use.
Put the conditioner on your hair in the shower and do not rinse.
Leave it on for an hour or more if you can. (Just pop on a shower cap and go about your usual day)

After you have waited, hop back into the shower and rinse.
Let your hair dry naturally without using a blow dryer.
After your hair is completely dry use w wide tooth comb... don't brush!

This was my friends weekly routine and she had the most gorgeous curly hair.
(During the week you do not need to leave the conditioner on as long)

Shazamataz is right about one thing: always use good conditioner. When I'm shopping around for the next best conditioner (because I do get sick of just one brand), I look for ones that target curly hair. Right now I'm using Tresemme's conditioner and I LOVE it. I have been using it for probably 6 months now.

I assume your hair is short? I can't really speak for short curly hair because my hair is quit long. When my hair was short I noticed the curls were bigger and fuller.

Here is my styling routine.

1.) In the shower, apply enough conditoner and leave in for about 3 minutes (I find that people/girls with curly hair have to use more conditioner)

2.) Before rinsing conditioner out, comb or brush hair until there aren't any knots
(those are the killers!)

3.) Rinse hair but leave a tiny bit of conditioner in. If you think you've rinsed all of it out then put a quarter size more in your hair and leave it in

4.) Once out of the shower, brush hair until there are no knots

5.) Take your favorite styling gels, creams and mousses out

6.) After freeing your hair from knots (and I can't stress this enough because it's hard to style curly hair with knots) flip your head upside down along with all of your hair. Take your favorite syling product and squeeze it in your hand, lather it around and scrunch your hair with your hands. Repeat as desired.

7.) As I scrunch, I hairspray it now and then, just to keep the curls in

8.) Keep srunching until hair is fully dry. Sometimes I use a blow dryer because I get lazy : ) Make sure if you use a blow dryer that your also using hairspray with it.

GOOD LUCK!
