View Full Version : Can I claim my husband's SS now at 62, and then at 66 switch to my own?

At 62 I can claim a benefit on my husband's Social Security. I also have my own from 35 years of work. I would like to claim the smaller spousal benefit on my husband's, and then at 66 drop it to claim the full benefit of my own social security benefit. Are there regulations on this? Thanks!

Yes, there are regulations on that. I'm no expert, but I'm pretty sure you are not allowed to do that. You can receive social security on either your earnings or his, but you can't jump from one to the other.
