View Full Version : Garage Opener: Remotes won't open, only close. Wall unit always works (not locked)

Here's a curious one. My garage door opener (chain driven) works the door fine. The wall unit controller operates the door just fine. It's ALL the controllers that won't work. I have two individual remote units, one outside wall mounted remote unit, and one internal car unit. They will all CLOSE the door, but will not open it. The actual individual remotes will open the door if you are right on it only. I've tried resetting it, but nothing helps. And no, it is not locked (tried this too) especially since it will open if the controller is really close to closed door. Could it be the unit antenna (although I've played with this too)? Could a bad wall unit do this? Could the unit just be fried? Any input on this problem? Unit is three years old this week.

Sounds like the remote receiver is going bad.

Check batteries in remotes. Make sure antenna wire is as straight as possible. If the door metal? Is this something new?

Changed all batteries, nothing. Yesterday we extended the antenna with another wire, still nothing. I'm assuming the remote sensor is an internal thing. Guess I'll have to call the repair guy out or just get a new one. Thanks for all the advise!

We actually fixed it today! We had to do a total shut down of our house circuit breaker by circuit break testing the door every time, but we figured it out. We recently rearranged a room right next to the garage and put a wireless telephone handset near the wall. Apparently this handset was scrambling the garage door signal so the remotes wouldn't work. We moved the phone handset and everything works fine now. Good to know.

Thanks for the update. Too often we never know the results.
Never hear that one. Have to keep it in mind for the next time someone has a problem.
