But If he fills out the petition for me now can I stay here legally without going to school and start working until he applies for his citizenship? Long wait for the spouse of a LPR, nothing to be done as he never filed for US citizenship. I advise him to file now, it is only taking about 4 months. When he is a USC, and you are married, you are an immediate relative, no PD wait. You can file the I-130 and the I-485 concurrently.

If he doesn't file for citizenship, you must maintain your F-1 for about 5 years, check the DOS visa bulletin for the PD for FB-2A.
