I have a 1999 Nissan Altima GXE which I bought up around a year back. It has around 91,000 miles on it.
It was pretty noisy inside the car. Replacing the tires solved some of the noise, but I still do hear a lot of the engine sound inside the car.:(
Especially when the car is cold and started for the first time, it starts smoothly but it is noisy till the rev comes down to around 1000rpm, at this rate also it is much noisier than other cars.

I am not sure if all the 1999 nissan altimas' are built these way, but I would be really glad if someone can give me some heads up in this case.

Thank you for your time..

Cheers!

Start using 5W-30 Mobil 1 or some other full-synthetic engine oil. Also, use a premium oil filter; e.g. Purolator PureOne. It has a silicone anti-drainback valve, which allows oil pressure to build much faster. These changes should quiet valve and other engine noises quite a bit. I would also recommend that you have the idle rpm checked.

Thanks TxGreaseMonkey :) I will definitely try it out, I am due for an Oil change in a weeks time will definitely go in for the oil u have mentioned. Also what would be the ideal RPM for the car.

Thanks once again

Likely the "final" idle speed should be around 700 rpm, when the engine is at normal operating temperature. You should check, however, the specs on your engine.

Change the synthetic oil and filter every 6,000 miles or 6 months, whichever comes first.

Though not the same amount of knowledge about cars.. at least we both strongly believe in John3:16...
Thanks again.
