So my fiancé and I are getting married soon in CT. I was wondering how will we do our taxes if my permanent residency is in CT and he is from FL. He wants to keep his residency in FL but is going to work in CT. should we do our taxes jointly or separately? Would it work if we just lived with my parents in CT, so that he can keep his FL residency and claim that worked out of state (CT) on his taxes? And would it be the same if I move out of my parents house and lease an apartment in CT only with my name? Cosigning would be a bad idea right? (by the way I am a college student). It is kind of tricky because its not like we're living in 2 different states as a married couple. Anything else should I know? Thanks :o)

If you are present in a state, then any income earned during this period, must be reported to the state. Read: Your U.S. Tax Return: Working or Living in Two or More states (http://taxipay.blogspot.com/2008/06/working-in-two-or-more-states.html)

If your future spouse both works and lives in Connecticut, then his residency changes to Connecticut whether he wants to admit it or not. He has no choice in the matter.
