I am a 23 year old female and my hair is thinning. Both my mother and my grandmother have very thin hair. My gfrandmother even wears wigs and hairpieces. I don't want my air to get as thin as theirs. Is there anything that I can do to prevent my hair from getting thinner or get back lost hair?

Minoxidil (trade names Rogaine and Regaine and various generics) is the only product that really works to treat baldness. There are many products claim to do it -- and in spite of their claims, they're essentially 100% useless. Most of the products are scams. Some really do think that they work, but they don't. The problem with minoxidil is that you have to use it all of the time.

Megan, I went through something similar a few years ago. I'd advise you to get your thyroid levels checked. Hypothyroid is very common in women and is easily treatable. Hair loss can be really disconcerting and you shouldn't have to live with it if it's avoidable. In the meantime, treat your hair really gently and avoid brushing it too much, putting in hair accessories that might cause stress or breakage, etc. But I'd strongly advise a quick blood test to check on your thyroid first. Good luck!
