I'm confused. What do you mean, you were "awarded a lien"? The court doesn't award liens, they award judgments. It's then up to the creditor to file for a lien against someone's property in order to collect the money owed in the judgment.

This8384 has a point, you need to make sure of exactly what you were awarded. But I think its possible that you were awarded a lien against the property as part of the divorce settlement.

But you do not go through the courts for this, you already have been to court. What you do is take the paperwork you got to your local county clerk or whoever is responsible for recording deeds and record the lien against the property.

The purpose of a lien it to prevent transfer of the property until the amount of the lien is settled. This is accomplished by having a title search done before closing. The title search will not find the lien unless its recorded against the deed.

As I noted in my answer to the OP all that is needed is to register the lien with recorder of deeds. There is no reason to go back to court since she was awarded the lien by a court.
