Greetings!
I am going to study in Edinburgh, Scotland for a period of one year. This means that I will be applying for a student visa (Tier 4) for those 12 months. My wife will apply for a student dependent visa. Can a student dependent work there in the UK?
Many Thanks.

Yes, she can work fulltime in the Uk on her dependent visa.. Also I need one information; What's the amount of funds (sufficient funds) needs to be shown to the immigration officials for getting dependent visa?

Thanks for the answer. I understood that this used to be the case before the March 30, 2009.
But the UK Border Agency site or its guidelines doesn't mention anything about working for the dependent visa holder. Can you please confirm?
A dependent has to show £3600 (£400 pcm) if the period of study for the student is nine months or more. This amount is for the study/staying outside London. For London, a dependent has to show £4797 (£533 pcm).

Thanks for your reply.. If the dependent visa is 12 months or more, she can work full time. It is an open work permit..

Hi Sarvk76,
I need some more clarifications. Can I apply dependent visa and student visa at the same time or only after I receive my student visa.
Also another clarification on finances;
1. Is this projection correct for filing visa for us (1 student + 2 dependents)?
My Course Fee : 7300
My Living Expenses : 7200
Funds for Dependent 1 : 3600
Funds for Dependent 2 : 3600
Total : 21700 GBP
2. Is it mandatory that we have maintain the funds for the dependents atleast for
6 months in our bank account?
Since you have already got the student and dependent visa, I would really appreciate your help in getting our visas.
Thanks in advance and wishing you the best for your future.

Help! We are in the same position. My husband is applying for Tier 4 and I am applying as a dependent. We will be there less than 12 months. What happened, was your wife able to work?

Hi guys,
Look this link:
http://www.ukvisas.gov.uk/en/howtoapply/infs/inf5students
"Will my husband, wife or civil partner be allowed to work?
Your husband, wife or civil partner will be allowed to work in the UK if we give you permission to stay in the country for at least twelve months."

She cannot work sorry, 2011. Unless your course is a degree or a higher one.

Dear sir,
I completed my masters in London in 2012 and I have already applied for psw on march, 2012. I gave my biometrics last week and now I am waiting for my visa. My problem is that my husband's college has been revoked on march 10, 2012. We married here in June , 2011. Now he wants to apply as my dependent. Is it possible for us to apply from london? Or does he have to go back to my country ? He still has visa till 2013. Please give some advice. Thank you!!
