Hi,

My uncle is a retired electrician and says that if I can purchase a 2 ton air conditioner - preferably a Carrier with R410A that he will install it for us.

Can I buy just the unit somewhere in my area?

Thanks

If you can't buy it there you can buy it from some other state and have it shipped to you. Check out the frieght charge from Texas. Zip Code 79424

I have never heard of Carrier authorized dealers selling directly to the public without installing the system. Carrier has earned its reputation in part by making sure their equipment is installed by only factory trained techs. My experience with them is they have very good factory trained dealers due to the sophistication/complexities of their equipment. Of course the customer does pay for that extra.

If you Uncle is amendable, ask if he doesn't mind installing a Goodman or Fedders. Those manufacturers will sell directly to you online. Be sure you have a certified HVAC tech do the final startup or your warranty will be useless.

2 ton a/c units are illegal in Maryland... okay, not really... but unless you are certified in refrigerant handling, I doubt you will find a distributor that will sell you equipment in any area. Try Craig's List in your state for someone who may be willing to be a "middle man" for a modest fee...
