Jesus Was quoting Psalm 110. The pharisees couldn't answer because it strongly suggests that the God of david talked to the God of david. At least 2 persons in the Godhead each one addressing the other like, "let US make man in OUR image" But David is also referring to the (at that time) future book of Hebrews (chapter one)where God the Father is talking to God the son.
Psalm 110:1 and Hebrews 1:13 correlate as the rhetorical question is asked that proves Jesus is no mere angel.

Mat. 22:37, Jesus answered " Love your God with all your heart, all your soul,
and all your mind." 38, This is the first and most important command. 39, And
The second command is like the first: " Love your neighbor as you love yourself."
40, All the law and the writtings of the prohets depend on these two commands.
Love for God and love for all those made in His image from the backbone of everything God says to us in His Word. So Paul said "Love is the fullfillment of the law."
(Rom13:10) "Love does no harm to a neighbor; therefor love is the fulfillment of the
law." Until we come to understand and believe at our deepest, innermost level that
God is love, we will struggle with trusting Him and serving Him wholeheartedly.
One of the keys to our spiritual growth as Christians is believing in God's Love
Even when we cannot see it. While we are to live in faith and hope, our most
Important dewelling place is God's Love. Without making His love our ultimate
Dwelling, we cannot fully live in faith and hope. The greatest "God's Love."
